Efficacy of a fluoroquinolone AT-4526 on colibacillosis in piglets

Efficacy of a fluoroquinolone AT-4526 on colibacillosis in piglets

Journal of the Japan Veterinary Medical Association 47(7): 469-473

On a farm where Escherichia coli diarrhoea occurred in 59 of 74 unweaned piglets from 8 sows, 49 affected piglets were injected i.m. with AT-4526 at 2.5 (10 piglets) or 5 mg/kg (39 piglets) daily for 3-5 days. With the 2.5 mg/kg dose there was clinical recovery in 7 of 10 (70%), and the faecal count decreased to less than a tenth in all 10 (100%); with the 5 mg/kg dose these figures were 36 of 39 (92%) and 38 of 39 (97%), respectively.
