Efficacy of different seed dressing fungicides on recovery of seedborne mycoflora of soybean

The efficacy of seven seed dressing fungicides namely Benlate, Baytan, Captan, Dithane M-45, Orthocide, Vitavax and Topsin was determined against seedborne fungi of soybean (Glycine max) viz:- Alternaria spp., Arthrobotrys sp., Aspergillus flavus, A. niger, Cladosporium cladosporiodes, Colletotrichum dematium, Curvularia lunata, Drechslera australiensis, Fusarium spp., Gliocladium sp., Penicillium sp., Rhizoctonia solani, Rhizopus. sp., Septocylindrium sp. and Stemphylium botryosum. Fungicide treatment in general reduced incidence of total detectable fungi. Though Benlate treated seed showed the least (18.87%) recovery of the fungi, Dithane M-45 which was more effective against Alternaria spp., Arthrobotrys sp. and Cladosporium cladosporiodes, Topsin against Gliocladium sp. and Septocylindrium sp. and Vitavax against Aspergillus flavus than Benlate.
