Efficacy of systemic fungicides and timing of preventative sprays in the control of sugary disease of grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor)

, : Efficacy of systemic fungicides and timing of preventative sprays in the control of sugary disease of grain sorghum (Sorghum bicolor). South African Journal of Plant and Soil 11(1): 30-33

Eight systemic fungicides, benomyl, bitertanol, carbendazim/flusilazole, CG169374, procymidone, propiconazole, terbuconazole and triadimenol, were evaluated in 2 separate field trials during the 1989/90 and 1990/91 seasons to determine their efficacy against sugary disease of sorghum caused by Claviceps africana with a single application.

Metalaxyl gave nearly 100% control of sorghum downy mildew (Peronosclerospora sorghi) in corn (Z. mays) and sorghum (S. bicolor) at seed treatment rates as low as 0.05 g a.i.[active ingredient]/kg. Stands of corn and sorghum were reduced at metala...

Metalaxyl was an effective curative of sorghum downy mildew when applied to foliage of systemically infected corn (Z. mays) and sorghum (S. bicolor) at rates of either 0.96 or 4.8 mg a.i.[active ingredient]/ml.
