Environmental and genetic aspects of litter traits in New Zealand White and Californian rabbits under the Egyptian conditions

Environmental and genetic aspects of litter traits in New Zealand White and Californian rabbits under the Egyptian conditions

Journal of Applied Rabbit Research 15: 335-351

Records of 1088 New Zealand White (NZW) and Californian litters produced by 286 dams (paternal half-sisters) and 61 sires during 2 successive yr were analysed for environmental and genetic factors influencing litter size and litter weight at birth, 21 days of age and weaning (at 5 wk of age) and preweaning litter mortality. Year of kindling affected (P<0.05) litter size in Californian rabbits. Month of kindling influenced all litter traits (P<0.05 or P<0.01) in NZWs.
