During 1989-90, human sera were collected by age groups in Okinawa (the northern central and southern areas), Miyako and Ishigaki islands (Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan) and examined for neutralization (N) antibodies to 2 strains, Nakayama (vaccine strain) and C307 (Okinawan strain), of Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus.
