Estimating the bodyweight of donkeys

Veterinary Record 132(10): 250-250
Estimating the bodyweight of donkeys
243 donkeys of various sizes and ages were weighed, their body condition assessed and various body measurements taken. The data were submitted to a nonlinear modelling procedure. For donkeys under 2 years old a formula using the sloping heart girth (the circumference measured from behind the front legs round the caudal edge of the withers) gave a good estimate of weight: weight (kg) = heartgirth 2.778 x 0.000283. Estimated weights were all within 10 kg of actual weights.
