Estimating the cost of kiwifruit vine growth

, : Estimating the cost of kiwifruit vine growth. Acta Horticulturae ( 313): 53-60

Seasonal trends in specific costs (g glucose/g DW) of organ synthesis (including the costs of carbon skeletons and growth respiration) were calculated from C, H, N, S and ash analysis data from samples taken every 6 weeks of kiwifruit Hayward leaves, shoots, canes and fibrous roots. Values were multiplied by the seasonal biomass data for a typical vine and summed to calculate the total costs of synthesis. Increases in perennial vine components were considered to be negligible.
