Estimation of body fat in Arctic foxes

, : Estimation of body fat in Arctic foxes. Krolikovodstvo i Zverovodstvo ( 4): 7

Body fat was assessed in 1100 female Arctic foxes (Alopex lagopus) during November, January and February and on the 20th day of pregnancy using the index of fatness (ratio of body weight in g to length in cm) and thickness of the fat fold in the groin. Effectiveness of the indices was estimated from analysis of reproduction data in females having or not the desired degree of fatness throughout the study period. Results showed a close correlation between the 2 methods.
