Estimation of genetic gain for grain yield of maize in Argentina during the period 1979-1988
Using data on the performance of 49 elite experimental hybrids, tested in comparison with the standard Aguara INTA in 121 regional trials during 1979-88, the estimated gain in grain yield was ca. 70 kg/ha per year, representing an annual increase of 1.1% of the estimated yield at the beginning of the period. The environments were classified as favourable or unfavourable according to the performance of the standard.
