Estimation of rainfall in Senegal using the satellite NOAA-9/AVHRR
The polar orbiting satellite NOAA-9/AVHRR which has two infrared channels was used to obtain relations between surface temperature measured by the satellite and rainfall measured on the ground in Senegal for the 1987 rainfall season. The two channels were combined using the split window technique with the coefficients of Lagouarde. The correlation between surface temperature and rainfall increased during the rainfall season and was maximum at the end of September.
