Estimation of resistance and tolerance to Heterodera avenae in wheat by miniature tests

, : Estimation of resistance and tolerance to Heterodera avenae in wheat by miniature tests. Mededelingen van de Faculteit Landbouwwetenschappen, Rijksuniversiteit Gent 56(3b): 1281-1292

Strategies for controlling cereal nematodes, especially Heterodera avenae focus on search and breeding of varieties that combine resistance (inhibition to nematode reproduction) and tolerance (capacity to withstand host injury). From a trial designed to vary infestation levels in the field, lowly and highly infested soils were sampled and used to grow wheat outdoors in PVC pots or bottles. Resistance was characterized at flowering by counting white females on the roots.
