Estimation of the water retention properties of loamy soils of the south-west of France, using their constitutional characteristics

Comptes Rendus de l' Academie d' Agriculture de France 79(1): 111-121

Estimation of the water retention properties of loamy soils of the south-west of France, using their constitutional characteristics

On a first set of 20 samples from loamy terrace soils, water retention properties were determined from laboratory measurements and from formulas based on particle size. These estimates were unsatisfactory. On a second set of 123 samples, water retention at field capacity was determined using auger sampling. Water retention at -15x105 Pa matric potential was also determined. Both values were then related to granulometric and organic characteristics.
