Estonian agriculture in a period of radical structural change - situation and outlook in spring 1993

Since 1989 Estonian agricultural production has fallen by about one third. This particularly affects dairy production which, because of natural conditions, provides about 70% of agricultural added value. The reasons include a shift in price/cost ratios, loss of USSR export markets, lifting of price controls, disruption of production during structural change, lack of liquidity and the disorganization of agricultural trade.
