Most Austrian farmers consider that there are more advantages in joining the EC than in remaining independent. The public as a whole is sceptical towards EC agricultural policies. It is argued that European integration cannot take place without Austria, and that access to EC markets and increased exports are plus points. Increased competition and loss of subsidies with mean loss of earnings give difficulties for farmers.
