Eutrophication as a significant background problem for wildlife in central Europe

Eutrophication as a significant background problem for wildlife in central Europe

Mitteilungen aus der Biologischen Bundesanstalt fur Land und Forstwirtschaft Berlin Dahlem ( 280): 73-94

In this paper, which was presented at a conference on pesticides and hazards to birds held on 8-9 April 1991 in Munster, Germany, the nontarget effects of increasing amounts of applied N on wildlife and the environment in central Europe are discussed. In Germany, active N input on farmland has risen from about 40 kg N/ha per year during the 1930s and early 1950s to >200 kg at present. Other sources are discussed.
