Evaluation of chloral hydrate-magnesium sulphate anaesthesia in goat

Chloral hydrate-magnesium sulphate anaesthesia at 214.3 and 107.1 mg/kg conducted in 11 Black Bengal goats maintained anaesthesia for 60 min. The respiratory rate decreased and pulse rate increased significantly. The excretion of saliva in animals fed before induction of anaesthesia was significantly greater than in the starved animals. Similarly, rumen motility in the unstarved goats was significantly higher as compared to goats deprived of both food and water for 24 h before anaesthesia.
