When the karyotype of tobacco Samsun was examined in 60 root tips in each of 3 plants prior to infection with tobacco mosaic tobamovirus (TMV) and 26 and 34 d post infection (p.i.), the number of chromosomes (2n=48) and the ratio of 6 nucleoli to 6 satellites remained the same, but there were changes in the morphology of several chromosomes after virus infection.
