Extensive grassland farming with hardy breeds. 2. Economic evaluation of Galloway and Highland cattle
For Galloway and Highland cattle in Bavaria, data were obtained by questionnaire on 72 farms and from performance records of herdbook cattle at 7 farms. Sale of weaned heifers was a major source of income at the farms, the average sale prices being DM 4800 and DM 5200 for Galloways and Highlands respectively. On average, a sale price of DM 15/kg carcass weight and an average gross margin, exclusive of feeding costs, of DM 2500 per suckler cow per year was obtained.
