Family farm households in agrarian societies in developing countries definitions of relevant units for surveys, analyses, and statements in socio-economic research

Quarterly Journal of International Agriculture 32(1): 20-27

The family farm household is the basic unit of organization in traditional agrarian societies and is still a widespread feature in many industrial societies. The individual and collective actions in family farm households, in an agrarian society, can only be understood in terms of their integration in the village system. In order to understand the basic organization of family farm household, this paper discusses the nature of the subunits; household, family and farm.
