Fattening system of young Creole bulls in Guadeloupean farms based on sugar cane diets and grazing

Fattening system of young Creole bulls in Guadeloupean farms based on sugar cane diets and grazing

Revue d' Elevage et de Medecine Veterinaire des Pays Tropicaux 44(4): 469-474

A finishing system of young bulls on Guadeloupean farms consisted of a day-time pasture period and a night-time period during which bulls were placed in cattle pens and received a sugar-cane mixture. Average daily gain in 7 bulls during 8 months was 490 g, almost double the gain observed in traditional grazing systems. The area use for this operation was 1.3 ha and the economic profit was 17 700 F with daily labour of 2.5 h.
