Field techniques for estimation of recharge using a soil water balance approach

Field experiments to estimate recharge rates are described. Volumetric water content, soil suction and hydraulic conductivity are measured and used to solve Darcian flux equations. The field sites were positioned within the catchment so that time and space dependent variations in recharge rates could be calculated. Plot scale observations are used to calculate recharge estimates which incorporate seasonal climatic changes.
