Generation of genotypes with high seed and oil yields and selection programme for linseed aimed at high yield per area to achieve competitive production in the Federal Republic of Germany

Schriftenreihe des Bundesministers fur Ernahrung, Landwirtschaft und Forsten Reihe A, Angewandte Wissenschaft (Sonderheft): 391-396

German and exotic varieties and lines of linseed (Linum usitatissimum) were screened and selected for grain and oil yield, short habit and resistance to lodging. While yield depended greatly on the year, this was less pronounced in the lines with brown seeds than in those with yellow seeds. Oil contents of up to 48% were recorded, but interaction with the environment was observed. Linolenic acid contents (C18:3) of lines with yellow seeds exceeded those with brown seeds by an average of 3.8%.
