Generation of variants for steroidal sapogenin production in Trigonella species by chemical mutagens

Two- to four-fold increases in steroidal sapogenins (diosgenin and tigogenin) were observed in one- and two-month-old M2 generation plants and seeds of T. corniculata and T. foenum-graecum, derived from seeds treated with 0.1 and 0.2 M ethyl methanesulfonate, methyl methanesulfonate and sodium azide.
