Generic nomenclature of mesozoic fossil wood with araucarioid features

Generic nomenclature of mesozoic fossil wood with araucarioid features

Taxon 42(1): 74-80

Many studies on fossil woods do not respect the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature and have complex, inconsistent nomenclature. Recent problems with nomenclature of gymnospermous woods with araucarioid cross-field pitting led to a review of the 21 generic names use to designate such fossil woods. It is concluded that only 8 names are legitimate.
