Genetic advances made in resistance to Chalara elegans in groundnuts

A total of 13 lines, from a cross between Sellie (susceptible) and Harts (resistant), were evaluated in field trials carried out in 1988-89 for grain yield, 4 yield components and resistance to the soil-borne pathogen C. elegans (Thielaviopsis basicola). The highest resistance was found in Harts, followed by lines PC137-K42 and PC137-K43 that exhibited a significantly higher resistance than Sellie. These lines also significantly outyielded Sellie.
