Genetic analysis of earliness mutations induced in the rice cultivar Norin 8

The earliness mutations induced in the rice cultivar Norin 8 were genetically analyzed and the relation of the mutant genes to those at the Lm locus controlling photoperiod sensitivity on the chromosome 6 was examined. The earliness of eight mutant line which headed eight to 46 days earlier than the original cultivar Norin 8 was mainly due to the recessive mutation at the Lm locus or other several loci responsible for photoperiod sensitivity. The earliness mutant genes were classified into five groups: the Lm allele in HM-7 and HM-6, a gene at the locus designated Se-5(t) with the pleiotropic effect on chlorophyll mutation in HM-1, a gene in HM-8 and two genes in HM-2 and HM-3.
