Genetic analysis of heterosis for total crude protein and digestible dry matter in guinea grass

The analysis of 8 parental tetraploid clones (7 sexual and 1 apomictic) of guinea grass (Panicum maximum) and their F1 progeny from a diallel cross revealed that only non-additive variance played a role in the inheritance of total crude protein (TCP) and digestible dry matter (DDM) per plant. In the parents, DDM and TCP ranged from 36.2-90.5 g/plant and 5.9-13.3 g/plant, respectively, while in the crosses DDM ranged from 48.4-109.2 g/plant and TCP from 7.0-14.4 g/plant.
