Genetic analysis of plant height and number of branches in brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)

Five genotypes were crossed in all possible combinations. The 20 F1 and 5 parental varieties were grown during 1987-88. In most of the tall X tall crosses the SCA effects for plant height were positive, as were SCA effects for number of branches per plant in crosses involving parents with profuse branching. Maximum heterobeltiosis for plant height and number of branches per plant was 26.4 (Islampuri X 11-1-324) and 48.45% (Uttara X Shingnath Long), respectively.
