Genetic analysis of resistance to scab (Gibberella zeae) in wheat varieties from different regions

Seven wheat varieties with varying degrees of resistance to scab were crossed in a half-diallel fashion. Spikelets of the F1 and F2 progeny were evaluated for resistance to scab and yield components. Results suggested that Wang-shui-bai, Sumai 3 and Xin-zhong-chang had more dominant genes controlling scab resistance than the other varieties and a higher GCA for reduced number of infected spikelets. The 2-4 major genes controlling resistance were partially dominant.
