Genetic analysis of the juvenile stage in hybrid progenies of Chinese pears

Juvenility was studied in 1505 hybrids from 12 cross combinations. The juvenile stage lasted 4-5 years in progenies of Pyrus pyrifolia X P. bretschneideri, although some fruited at 3-years-old while others fruited only in their eighth year. Intervarietal hybrids of P. bretschneideri had a juvenile phase of 5-6 years (range 4-9 years).
