Genetic and antigenic variation of bluetongue viruses in the Western USA

Genetic and antigenic variation of bluetongue viruses in the Western USA

Bluetongue, African horse sickness, and related orbiviruses: Proceedings of the Second International Symposium: 755-759

A panel of 91 field isolates of bluetongue (BLU) viruses isolated predominantly in the western USA were shown to be both genetically and antigenically heterogenic. The data support the concept of a large "gene pool" which facilitates interchange of individual gene segments between viruses of different serotypes.
