Genetic and breeding strategies for Striga resistance in sorghum

The problems associated with breeding for Striga resistance in sorghum are briefly discussed along with a description of genetic studies and breeding strategies used in this area of research at Purdue University. A superior source of resistance has been found in sorghum SRN-39, and this was found to be inherited as a recessive trait controlled by 1 or 2 genes.
