Genetic and environmental effects on preimplantation development of mouse embryo in vitro

Two-cell stage embryos, collected from oviducts of 5 inbred strains of mice (DDD/Qdj, C3H/Qdj, C57BL/6J Sea, DBA/IJ Sea and BALB/c Sea), were cultured in vitro for 72 h up to the expanded blastocyst stage. Fertility and survival rates were estimated for each donor and for each strain. A Student-Newman-Keuls test showed a significant strain difference for both traits.
