Genetic and environmental trends in milk production of first lactation Holstein cows in Mexico

First lactation records of 3598 Holstein cows representing 107 sires and 68 herds from 1978 to 1984 and registered by the Holstein Association of Mexico were used to estimate the genetic, phenotypic and environmental trends by least-squares analysis with 2 models, which included the effects of state, herd, calving yr, calving month, lactation length (linear and quadratic) and age of cow (linear). The difference between both models was the presence or absence of sire effect.
