Genetic and environmental trends of early growth traits in the Elsenburg Dormer sheep stud

BLUP estimates of breeding value for birth weight, weaning weight, average daily gain and Kleiber ratio (average daily gain/weaning weight0.75) of lambs recorded during 1943-90 were obtained by Restricted Maximum Likelihood procedures, fitting a direct additive and a maternal additive genetic model. Environmental trends, estimated from the difference between phenotypic and genetic values, were negative for all traits. Genetic trends were small and positive.
