Genetic and phenotypic parameters for egg production and egg quality traits in guinea fowl

Data were collected from a randombred indigenous guineafowl population. Each generation had 500-600 pullets. Good layers had a defined pattern of egg laying compared with that of poor layers. The hsuperscript 2 was 0.56+or-0.19 for age at 1st egg, 0.43+or-0.13 for total egg production, 0.47+or-0.18 for egg production during the first 90 days, 0.75+or-0.21 for egg weight, 0.44+or-0.13 for egg shell thickness and 0.80+or-0.21 for Haugh units.
