Genetic and phenotypic parameters of reproductive traits in Zotnicki sows

The study was based on records for the years 1970-85 of 300 Zotnicki sows (offspring of 52 boars) and their 1738 litters. The sows had on average 13.36 teats each; litter size at birth averaged 9.04 for 1st litters, 9.79 for 2nd litters and 9.01 for 3rd litters, and litter size 21 days after birth 8.44, 9.16 and 9.0 respectively. Over the period of the study, an average of 52.91 piglets were born per sow and 48.72 piglets survived at least 21 days.
