Genetic and reproduction research on giant tiger prawns (Penaeus monodon): pond reared spawners achieved in Australia

Australasian Biotechnology 4(4): 222-224

The Australian Institute for Marine Science's work in developing reliable supplies of larval prawns from farmed stock, and of domesticating the giant tiger prawn, is reviewed. Allozyme variation at the glucose phosphate isomerase locus is presented for 7 populations of the giant tiger prawn and inheritance of RAPD banding patterns shows that at least 6 variable loci are inherited as codominant alleles.
