Genetic aspects of breeding potato varieties for storability at low temperatures

Potato Research 36(2): 153-160

A total of 14 populations at the seedling and first clone stage, resulting from crosses between parents with differences in storability at 4 degrees C based on rates of reducing sugar accumulation, were studied. From each population, 25 genotypes were stored at 4 degrees C for 12 weeks and evaluated for reducing sugar content and for crisp/chip production using frying tests. Analysis of data from parents and progeny revealed intermediate polygenic inheritance of cold storability.
