Genetic basis of sex determination in two South African strains of house-fly (Musca domestica L.)

Genetic basis of sex determination in two South African strains of house-fly (Musca domestica L.)

South African Journal of Science 86(1): 41-43

Sex determination in 2 strains of housefly recently collected from South Africa was, for one, largely and, for the other, wholly independent of the standard XY mechanism. Both strains contained at high frequencies a dominant male determinant on autosome 3 (MIII) and an unlocalised female determinant (F) that countered the presence of MIII in female flies.
