Genetic basis of the resistance of new Czechoslovak spring barley varieties and breeding lines to powdery mildew

When 14 varieties and 16 breeding lines were tested with 10 pathotypes of Erysiphe graminis at the young plant stage under artificial infection, 10 groups of varieties (4 of them with subgroups) were identified on the basis of the response to infection, and 13 resistance genes were found, the most frequent being Ml-a13, then Ml-La, Ml-a7 and Ml-at. The last gene was always in combination with Ml-La. The recessive resistance gene ml-o was found in 2 breeding lines (KM-BR S2 and CE431).
