Genetic crossing at IAC contests the world's literature

Genetic crossing at IAC contests the world's literature

Agronomico 45(1): 47-48

A successful intergeneric hybridization between 2 distinct citrus groups using traditional breeding methods is reported for the first time. The hybrids, named Sunkifolias and Buxisunkis, were obtained at the Agronomic Institute of Campinas (IAC), Brazil, from crosses between Citrus sunki (decline-resistant rootstock) from the group of 'true citrus' and Severina buxifolia (disease resistant and drought and cold tolerant) from the group of 'primitive citrus'.
