Genetic differentiation of populations in a programme of dynamic management of genetic resources in winter wheat

A pilot experiment on dynamic management of genetic variability begun in France in 1984 is described, which studied the evolution of 3 synthetic wheat populations. The results are presented from a study of one of the managed pools (designated B) raised at 6 sites under 2 regimes (of the intensive and extensive type). There were significant differences between the 12 populations in this test for some traits (e.g. height, heading date) but not for others (e.g. ear length, 1000-grain weight).
