Genetic divergence in relation to geographical distribution in 128 germplasms originating from 17 countries throughout the world was studied using principal component analysis of 7 yield-related traits in 1988. The first 2 principal components, derived from the correlation matrix among the entry means, divided the germplasm into 16 broad based groups and accounted for >80% of the total variation.
