Genetic diversity and similarity of 35 coconut populations based on isoenzyme banding pattern analysis

Of 6 enzymes analysed by starch gel electrophoresis, 5 showed variation in the isoenzyme banding pattern: peroxidase, esterase, acid phosphatase, endopeptidase and glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (aspartate aminotransferase), the number of banding patterns found for these enzymes being 5, 4, 3, 4 and 4, respectively. For catalase, only one pattern was found. Many populations had more than one banding pattern. All the patterns were interpreted into hypothetical alleles and loci.
