As part of a study into ring shake in chestnut (C. sativa), the modulus of rupture was measured of wood discs (sampled at breast height and above) from coppice poles felled in a 45-yr-old coppice stand near Paris, France. The possibility that the occurrence of ring shake may be genetically controlled was also studied, by electrophoretic studies of 3 enzyme loci (Pgi-1, Idh-2, and Sdh-1) using young foliage samples.
