Genetic diversity in diploid and hexaploid wheats as revealed by RAPD markers

PCR based randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers have been used to detect polymorphism in the DNA sequences of diploid wheats. A high degree of polymorphism has been detected in T. boeoticum, T. monococcum and T. urartu, the A- genome progenitor(s) of polyploid wheats while no polymorphism could be detected In the hexaploid wheats. The UPGMA analysis of MRD revealed differential degree of relatendness of T. monococcum with different accessions of T. boeoticum while two accessions of T. urartu showed separate clustering on the phenogram.
