Genetic engineering of virus resistance: a successful genetical alchemy

This paper describes the successful application of genetic engineering in crop improvement through the production of virus-resistant plants, achieved by transformation with novel resistance genes based on nucleotide sequences derived from viruses or virus-associated nucleic acids.
