Genetic enhancement of rice for sustained pest management



Biodiversity: implications for global food security: 102-114



Host plant resistance is recognized as the most desirable management strategy by virtue of its pest and disease control efficiency, cost effectiveness and environmental safety. A wide range of resistant varieties have been developed. However, there is the need for a continued search for new resistance genes from diverse sources such as primitive cultivars, landraces, wild relatives, induced mutations and unrelated species.
