Genetic variation in Philippine collections of mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek), ricebean (Vigna umbellata L. Thumb and Ohwi) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp)

Isoenzymes of acid phosphatase, esterase, peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase in 100 accessions of V. radiata, 63 of V. umbellata and 70 of V. unguiculata were analysed using starch gel electrophoresis. A total of 13 zones of activity were observed from the different banding patterns of the 4 enzymes, with 7 loci detected in V. radiata, and 9 in V. umbellata and V. unguiculata, of which 5, 7 and 5 loci, respectively, were polymorphic.
